The time is finally here. In a few days, one of Barrack Obama and John McCain will be elected for the presidency. Throughout his campaign, John McCain has been trailing in the polls by 10 to 15 points but then again, perhaps he’s a believer that the only poll that really matters is the one in his pants.
After observing these two candidates for the past couple of months, I’m still unsure of many decisions that McCain has made in his campaign. The most prominent mistake was obviously appointing Sarah Palin to be his running mate. It is now a firm belief that Sarah Palin is doing more harm than good. She’s not a bad person. She is simply not ready for the position that she’s running for. Even now, about 2/3 of the Republicans believe that she was a mistake and is partially responsible for McCain being so far behind in the polls.
One thing is true though… McCain doesn’t seem to think so. He has given many cocky and confident speeches during the past couple of weeks claiming that he’s got Obama right where he wants him. Perhaps he pays a lot more attention than he should to Fox News. Even that statement proves that McCain is not a suitable choice for the presidency. Even now, McCain is thinking about attacking Obama instead of focusing on the points that make his campaign stand out to the public. He fails to describe in detail, his solutions to the many problems that the American people are now facing.
Barrack Obama on the other hand, has been able to consistently and intelligently, describe his plans for the most important topics such as energy, health care, and last but not least, the economy. He has also proven that he can choose intelligent and sophisticated people to give him advice and guidance throughout his career by appointing Joe Biden as his running mate. Barrack Obama is also one of the most intriguing public speakers that I have seen in a long time and possesses the charisma and aura of a president and seems to be the better candidate in this election.
Of course there are people in America who still believe anything that they are told. To those people, Obama is an Arab Muslim Terrorist… thingie… and as of recently, a socialist. In one of the campaign rallies, Sarah Palin claims that if Obama is president, people’s belongings will no longer be theirs. “Pew pew pew”. Their investments will be taken away. McCain is now claiming that Obama is a socialist and also not far from a communist. In my opinion, “spreading the wealth” may sound like a socialist notion, but so is Canadian health care. I believe that health care is a socialist notion as well… yet this is proof that not everything socialist is bad. I agree that not everything can be seen from a socialist viewpoint, but there is nothing wrong with taking the best of different political orientations and ideologies.
In closing, let’s not forget that with the election of a new president, Bush will be leaving the office. I read an interesting article recently claiming that the approval rating is at a record low of 22%. Bush is now tied with Truman for the lowest approval rating for an American president. Of course, we all know that Truman nuked Japan. This kind of means that if Bush had nuked a country during his term, he would’ve had the same approval rating as he has now. That is very sad.
